Why I Founded The Mindful Vocalist
Early in my career, I was super obsessed with vocal technique while ignoring that perfect technique should go hand in hand with strong mindset.
My road to artistic and personal wisdom and fullfillment was full of voice and singing technique issues, confidence and mindset issues
- even body image issues (I was diagnosed with anorexia aged 18)
arising from severe lack of self love and ignoring my Truth.
It took a huge shift to change that and I learned A LOT along the way
- not only as a singer.
You see, my path though a hard one allowed me to look beyond technique and delve into the more subtle aspects involved in singing: that of the mind and spirit.
It dawned to me that I could not be a great singer or enjoy my craft when I neglect my body, going days without eating or sleeping properly. Or when I neglect my mind and do not nurture my spirit by engaging in drama and absorbing other people's vibrations constantly.
It took mindfulness to put the mess in order.
Ask yourself why our culture is full of artists losing their minds and finding relief in substances even though ''they have everything''?
And we view this as ''normal''.
We say artists are ''a little crazy anyways'' when in reality they are just out of balance and need guidance.
Only lately popular artists have started acknowledging the importance of a healthy and strong mindset and spirituality - most of them after having damaged their health through years of alcohol and medication abuse.
All of this made me think:
''What if we were more mindful in the ways we teach singing?
What if we set a healthier example with how we live our lives as artists and how we practice our craft...
What if we gave aspiring artists all the tools from the get-go?''
I started incorporating all I had learned through my journey to my coaching methods while working at various music schools and academies. I saw a huge impact on my students and their overall performance.
